Get Free River Cruise Suite QuotesViking river cruise suites are few on each Longship, which is why they sell early. Here is how they differ from Viking’s staterooms, using Viking’s own figures for Viking Ve.
Viking Longship Accommodation

|---|---|---|
| Explorer Suite | About 445 sq ft | Separate sleeping and sitting rooms, wraparound veranda with 270° views, French balcony |
| Veranda Suite | 275 sq ft | Full-size veranda off a separate sitting room; French balcony in the sleeping area |
| French Balcony Stateroom | 135 sq ft | Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door; no step-out veranda |
Viking Ve is a Longship; other Viking ships, such as those on the Seine, Douro and Elbe, are configured differently. Ask us for the plan of your exact ship.
Explorer Suites: Viking’s Best Cabins

The Explorer Suites sit at the very back of the ship, which is what gives them a wraparound veranda. There are only a couple per Longship, so on popular sailings they can be gone a year or more ahead. Viking lists the Silver Spirits beverage package and a private transfer among their perks on Viking Ve.
Viking Suites Compared With the Luxury Lines
Viking’s Veranda Suite is comparable in size to suites on the luxury lines — Tauck’s Tauck Suites are 300 sq ft, AmaWaterways lists 300 sq ft suites on AmaVenita. The difference is the fare around it: Viking includes one shore excursion in each port and beer and wine with lunch and dinner, while Uniworld, Scenic and Tauck also include all-day drinks and gratuities. Our sister site Luxury River Cruise Lines compares Viking with them in detail.
If mobility matters, ask about elevator access to your deck; Accessible River Cruises covers accessible cabins.
Veranda or French Balcony on Viking?
Most Viking Longship guests choose between the French Balcony stateroom and the Veranda stateroom. The veranda gives you somewhere to sit outside; the French balcony keeps more of the room inside. If you will be ashore most days, the French Balcony stateroom is often enough. If you want to watch the Rhine Gorge or the Wachau go by from a chair, the Veranda stateroom or a Veranda Suite is worth it. Our sister site Luxurious River Cruises covers what else makes a sailing feel luxurious.
